About Regis College

Regis College was founded in 1927 as a Catholic women’s college in the suburb of Weston, near Boston, Massachusetts. The college was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph to provide Catholic women with higher education. The university gained a reputation for excellent liberal arts teaching in the Catholic tradition. In the 1970s the college expanded its curriculum to include doctoral degrees and in 2006 the college established a ‘two school model’ with the creation of the School of Liberal Arts, Education and Social Sciences and the School of Nursing, Science, and Health Professions. In 2007 the college went coeducational, after 80 years as a women’s only college, admitting undergraduate freshmen. Regis also began offering doctoral programs in 2007.

Today the university is home to some 2,000 students studying a range of programs from undergraduate to doctoral level. The college’s School of Liberal Arts, Education and Social Sciences offers 8 undergraduate majors and 20 minors and graduate courses in education, communications and heritage studies as well as doctoral-level studies and education-related subjects. The School of Nursing, Science, and Health Professions offers six undergraduate majors, six minors and a range of graduate options.

The college campus is situated in the suburb of Weston 12 miles from downtown Boston. Five residence halls dot the wooded campus and the student centre houses a post office, book store and meeting areas as well as the college dining hall. There are also sports and leisure facilities as well as a theatre, arts centre and the Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History.
