About Pittsburg State University
Pittsburg State University – known as Pitt State or PSU – is located in Kansas. The university dates back to 1903 when it was formed as the Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School. It became a recognised university in 1913 with a mission to broaden its offerings beyond teacher training. It became Pittsburg State University in 1977.
The 223-acre campus is home to a new $30 million Kansas Technology Centre which is home to a state-of-the-art technology programme. Moreover, in 2014, the university opened the Bicknell Family Centre for the Arts.
Degrees are offered within a variety of different schools, which include: College of Arts and Science, Kelce College of Business, College of Education and the College of Technology.
PSU operates a satellite campus in the Kansas City Metro Area, the Kansas City Metro Centre Campus, which offers a variety of bachelor's and master's degrees. Moreover, two further degrees are offered on the campus of Salina Area Technical College.
According to recent data, some 90 per cent of graduates find employment or continue with advanced studies within six months of graduation.
There are countless ways to get involved, with a variety of clubs and organisations on campus. Clubs include: Dance Club, Ski and Snowboard Club, Urban Gaming, Judo, and Martial Arts.
PSU is renowned for its success in athletics. The 10 sports teams compete at the Division II level of the NCAA. PSU’s football team garnered national attention in 2011, winning the NCAA Division II National Championship. Other teams include: baseball, basketball, cross country, track and field, softball and volleyball.
Notable alumni include Gary Busey, an American actor who has appeared in over 150 films, including Lethal Weapon and Predator 2, Brian Donald Moorman, a former American football punter, and Harold Lee Scott, Jr., an American businessman who served as the chief executive officer of Wal-Mart Stores.
