About University of Hong Kong

Founded in 1911, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has origins tracing back to the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese (1987).

Today, HKU has 10 academic faculties with English as the main language of instruction: dentistry, biomedicine, architecture, education, humanities, law, economics, business administrations, linguistics and political science.

The university’s main campus covers 160,000 square metres and is based in Lung Fu Shan. Separately, there’s also the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine (situated 4.5 km southwest of the main campus), a medical campus including Queen Mary Hospital, the faculty of dentistry which includes the Prince Philip Dental Hospital and the Kadoorie Agricultural Research Centre at the southern tip of Hong Kong Island.

There are also 20 residential halls and colleges for undergraduates, postgraduates and visitors, as well as offering more than a hundred clubs and associations for students to get involved with.

There are competitive sports teams for students to join, including: fencing, soccer, rugby, rowing, karate and swimming. Past students have competed in major events such as Asia Games, the Olympics and World University Games.

HKU has also established relationships with more than 340 leading universities around the world across 43 countries, carrying out various exchange activities such as academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad.

The campus of HKU welcomes more than 9,000 international students from 96 countries.
