About Malone University
Malone University is a Christian liberal arts institution linked to the Quaker movement in Canton, Ohio. Established in 1892, teaching originally took place in a rented home in Cleveland, the state’s largest city. It became a Christian liberal arts college in 1957.
Malone University is so named in memory of Walter and Emma Malone, a Quaker couple who founded the institution in 1892. The granting of university status in 2008 resulted in the institution taking on its current name in place of Malone College.
The city of President McKinley, who won two elections before being assassinated in New York in 1901, Canton is also famous for being the birthplace of the National Football League. 25 miles from Akron, the “Rubber City” known for its tyre-making, and 50 miles south of Cleveland, Canton is 50 miles from the Pennsylvanian border and 90 miles north west of Pittsburgh, once the biggest steel producer in the world, and home to various rivers, bridges and skyscrapers.
Its campus comprises 96 acres, and consists of four schools and colleges in total, with its online programmes rated highly. Kinesiology & exercise science, and business administration are among the most popular of the 100-odd Malone courses available. There are also accelerated degree programme options.
Alumni include Olympic gold medallist Timothy Mack, who won the pole vault at Athens 2004, and Jeff Timmons, co-founder of US pop group 98 Degrees.
