California State University, Dominguez Hills

California State University-Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 member institutions of the California State University system.

The university takes its name from the providers of the land where the university is situated, the Dominguez family, who were in possession of the land for seven consecutive generations.

The university campus is in South Bay in central Los Angeles, located on a 364-acre park-like plot in a business and cultural hub which provides CSUDH students with a range of opportunities.

This public, coeducational institution is one of the most ethnically diverse universities in the United States, in addition to having the largest percentage of black students of any of the institutions in California State University system. There are more than 14,000 students currently enrolled, and a significant proportion of them are first-generation college students.

There are six major academic colleges at CSUDH, offering a total of 46 undergraduate majors and 22 graduate majors. There are currently no doctoral degrees offered at CSUDH.

The university’s School of Nursing is especially prestigious and is regularly ranked among the best nursing institutions in the country.

CSUDH’s sports facilities are renowned for being world-class and the university is the home of the StubHub Centre, the 27,000-seat stadium where football team LA Galaxy play their home games.

The university athletics teams, known as the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros, compete in nine varsity sports, and among renowned former Toros are three-time Olympic medallist Carmelita Jeter, and baseball centre fielder Kevin Pillar.

Among famous former CSUDH students are award-winning journalists Ben Swann and Steffan Tubbs, US Congresswoman Karen Bass, and Louis Silar Jr., founder of Silas Records.
