About Virginia Wesleyan University
Virginia Wesleyan College is a private liberal arts college established in a coastal part of the state in 1961.
There are more than 60 study programmes for students to choose from overall, with business, biology, education, recreation & leisure studies, communication and criminal justice the most popular. Founded by the Virginia Annual Conference of the Methodist Church, the college employs a full-time Methodist chaplain and has a number of United Methodist Church members on its board of trustees.
Its serene 300-acre campus is largely forested and enjoys remarkable proximity to some of Virginia’s major cities. Situated in between Norfolk and Virginia Beach, the state’s two most populous, it is also 10 miles from Chesapeake, the third. It is a part of a metropolitan area with a population that exceeds one and a half million. Several beaches, waterfront festivals, surfing spots and fishing hubs are within easy reach of VWC, as are concert halls, botanical gardens and Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval base in the world.
Alumni include Keller Williams, a musician and multi-instrumentalist whose influences span jazz, folk, traditional bluegrass, reggae, electronica, and Sam Presti, a VWC basketball player who went on to become a long-serving general manager of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.
