About Queens University of Charlotte

Queens University of Charlotte is based in North Carolina and is nestled in a suburban neighbourhood just a few minutes from uptown Charlotte. 

The university has roots dating back to 1857 when it was founded as the Charlotte Female Institute. It wasn’t until 1912 that the campus moved to its present location.

There are a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees within liberal arts and sciences as well as business, communication, nursing, health and education. The most popular degrees are Business and Marketing programmes, Communications and Journalism programmes and the Health Professions.

The courses operate within various colleges which include: College of Arts and Sciences, the McColl School of Business, the Wayland H. Cato, Jr. School of Education, the James L. Knight School of Communication, Hayworth College for Adult Studies and the Andrew Blair College of Health.

The university’s location in the city's thriving business centre creates ample opportunities for students to grow through various opportunities, such as internships, research opportunities and leisure time activities.

There are some 70 clubs and organisations on campus for students to enjoy which range from arts & culture, fraternity & sorority Life, recreational activities, media, and academics.

Moreover, throughout its history, Queens University has developed many different traditions on campus. The Boar's Head Banquet and Yule Log Ceremony, for example, is a medieval tradition, which consists of medieval songs, festivities and food in celebration of the Christmas season. Moreover, there is an Exam Break Breakfast where students can enjoy a late night breakfast, which is served by professors and staff members the night before exams begin.

Athletic teams at Queens University – known as the Queens Royals – participate as members of the NCAA's Division II programme as well as the South Atlantic Conference. Sports teams at the university include basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and tennis. 

Notable alumni include David-Matthew Barnes, an American author, playwright, poet, and screenwriter, John Schwert, a renowned film and commercial director and producer, and Betsy Cromer Byars, an American author of children's books who won the 1971 Newbery Medal.
