About Lock Haven University
Founded in 1870, Lock Haven University (LHU) is an education and liberal arts university in central Pennsylvania, based in the town from which it is named. LHU also has an affiliate campus in Clearfield, in the northwest of the state.
Between Lock Haven and Clearfield, LHU offers more than sixty degree programmes at associate, baccalaureate and master’s level. Avenues of study are divided between the university’s three colleges, Liberal Arts & Education, Natural, Behavioural & Health Sciences, and Business, Information Systems & Human Services. The MS of Science in Mental Health counselling course was ranked seventh nationwide by the GoGrad website, and is one of the courses offered online by LHU.
As well as valuable facilities for art students at LHU, the Price Performance Centre, Sloan Auditorium and Fine Arts Gallery all put on displays and performances throughout the year, open to the student body and local community to attend. The Fredericks Family Memorial Carillon on campus is one of less than 200 grand carillons in the United States. It is comprised of 47 tuned bronze bells, in total weighing almost 25,000 pounds.
Athletics teams at LHU have been known as the Bald Eagles since 1937 following a vote by the student body. There are seven men’s teams and nine women’s all competing in the NCAA Division II aside from men’s wrestling and women’s field hockey, which compete in Division I. American football games are played at the Hubert Jack stadium, which can seat up to 3,500.
Alumni from LHU include three Congressman from Pennsylvania, America’s Next Top Model winner Brittani Kline, and mixed martial artist Jamie Varner. The Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center can seat up to 400 people, and is used to hose both new admissions and as a meeting place for those who have previously attended LHU.
