About Lake Erie College
Originally opened as a theological seminary in 1856, since 1899 Lake Erie College has been offering bachelor’s and graduate degrees in the liberal arts. The college is located in the town of Painesville in northern Ohio, near the banks of the Great Lake from which it takes its name. The relatively small size of the college, between bachelors and graduate courses around 1000 students studying at any one time, allows for limited class sizes and a close working relationship between faculty and student.
There are four schools at Lake Erie; Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Business, Education & Professional Studies, Equine Studies, and Natural Sciences & Mathematics. The Pre-Law programme at LEC provides co-curricular event opportunities and a dedicated academic advisor for each student to ensure the best undergraduate preparation for the Law School Admission Test.
Equine studies is based at the Humphrey Equestrian at LEC, which is around 5 miles from the main campus, and a regular shuttle service between the two is offered from Monday to Saturday. The 86 acre facility provides stabling for up to 95 horses, and the breeding centre in the school barn contains the resources and equipment for students to be informed of all aspects of modern breeding management.
The Morley Music building boasts exquisite Greek architecture, an 800 seater capacity and an acoustic reputation as one of the best small music halls in the world. The building also hosts the annual Christmas Vespers at the college, a popular festive event featuring concert orchestra and voice performances.
The Lake Erie College Storm play in eight men’s varsity sports and seven women’s, competing in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The mascot is known as Stormy the Cyclone, and teams compete in the college colours of forest green and white.
