About Franklin College
Franklin College is an arts college with roots dating back to 1834 in Indiana. Franklin College has historically maintained an affiliation with the American Baptist Churches USA.
The scenic rural campus spans some 207 acres, which includes its 31-acre woodland used by the biology faculty. Athletic fields also occupy the campus.
Nearby Franklin offers plenty of opportunities for students wanting to take a break from studying. For instance, there’s a roller rink, movie theatre, bowling alleys, museums, parks, clubs, and a zoo not too far away.
There are a variety of different subjects on offer at the college, however a large emphasis is placed on the arts, which include: journalism, education, art, political science, theatre and music.
Sports teams at the university – nicknamed the Grizzlies – participate in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Men and women’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, swimming and diving.
There are plenty of organisations on campus for students to participate in. Academic clubs on offer include: Athletic Training Club, Business Club, Education Club and Pre-Law Club. While there are various arts clubs such as drama club, FC Dancers, World Cultures Club, Intercultural Book Club, and Environmental Activists Restoring the Habitats.
Media is an important aspect of the College, with its own student-produced television webcast, called Inside Franklin and radio station called WFCI. Moreover, there is a magazine, which is written and produced by students, called The Wellhouse and newspaper called The Franklin.
Notable alumni include Robert Wise, who won Academy Awards for directing The Sound of Music and West Side Story, after studying journalism, Elmer Davis, a writer for The New York Times, director of the United States Office of War Information, and Peabody Award recipient, and Ralph Isselhardt, an American football player.
