About Fairfield University
Fairfield University was founded in 1928 by the Society of Jesus, a Catholic congregation more commonly known as Jesuits. “Care for the whole person” is the university’s philosophy. Students are supported to develop their faith, ethics and public service, as well as to educate themselves in their chosen field.
50 majors and minors are on offer at Fairfield, along with almost 40 master’s and a doctor of nursing course. The top-rated programmes at the university are biology, international studies, art history, religious studies, sociology, accounting and finance and mechanical engineering.
Internships play an important part in education at Fairfield, and students may even take work experience in their first year. Careers counsellors can work with students to arrange internships as soon as they arrive. Previous interns have worked on placements with Disney, Deloitte, the NBA and many more top employers.
Faculty at Fairfield are encouraged to try innovative ways of teaching, and the university has had several success stories in its novel approaches to study. For example, one psychology professor recorded lectures to be watched outside of class so that the lecture timeslot could be used for students to discuss the content and work together on homework.
The local town of Fairfield, Connecticut was once voted “Best place to live in the United States”. Its location on the shore of the Long Island Sound makes it perfect for boating enthusiasts. New York City is easily accessible for anyone wanting to escape the tranquil small town life.
