About CUNY York College
CUNY York College has its roots in The Free Academy, established in 1847. Since 1961, it’s become a part of City University of New York - the largest urban public higher level institution in the US, famous for its ethically diverse student body. The college premises are in Queens, York, with easy access to New York City.
York College is especially respected for its liberal arts courses ranging from anthropology, teacher education, foreign languages, English and music to biotechnology, economics, chemistry, social work and business administration. The programmes are organised in three schools - the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Information Systems and the School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs.
The college prides its science, computer graphics and micro-computer labs, as well as a fully equipped television and radio production studio for media students. You can also enjoy live performances of classical or popular music in its 150-seat theatre and 1500-seat auditorium. The CUNY Aviation Institute, providing education in aviation, is also located on the York College campus.
York College’s students represent around 50 countries around the world and speak over 37 languages. There are over 50 student clubs and sports teams you can join.
Famous alumni include Deborah Persaud, associate professor of pediatric infectious diseases at John Hopkins University, Steven Weitzner, former journalist and CEO of CMP Media, a Long-Island based technology marketing company, singer Shannon, technology columnist Ed Baig, lawyer Donald Vernon who opened his own community practice, author and former Madison Avenue executive James Siegel.
