About Concordia College at Moorhead
Concordia College (Moorhead) is a private liberal arts institution in Minnesota which opened in 1891.
A Christian institution, it subscribes to the Lutheran academic tradition, but its students adhere to around 40 different religions and denominations in total. Norwegian settlers, including several pastors, played an important role in Concordia’s creation, and it has long offered a Norwegian and Scandinavian studies program. Concordia facilitates Norwegian language learning and study placements at the University of Tromsø, the world’s northernmost university.
It is one of five small institutions situated in Moorhead, a small city in the far west of Minnesota, right by the border with North Dakota. Concordia is just two miles from Fargo, its largest city. One of the state’s most industrial cities, Fargo is one of North Dakota’s main arts and shopping destinations.
Business, education and communication are among the most heavily-subscribed programmes.
Concordia’s partnership with North Dakota State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead allows its students to complete a specified number of modules in Fargo and Moorhead.
Concordia alumni include Clint Hill, the United Secret Service Agent widely credited with saving Jacqueline Kennedy’s life during the assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, in 1963, and Dave Joerger, who has coached the National Basketball Association’s Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings. Joerger used to play for the college’s basketball team, the Cobbers, during his time at Concordia.
