About Clarion University of Pennsylvania
Clarion University is a collegiate institution based in the northwestern Pennsylvania town from which it takes its name. Founded in 1867, Clarion is a public institution and member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
There are over 100 academic programmes at Clarion, between the Colleges of Arts, Education & Sciences, Business Administration & Information Systems, and Clarion University – Venango, a branch campus which offers courses at Clarion, at the affiliate Pittsburgh site, and online.
The school is also affiliated with schools in the local area and nationwide, such as a partnership with Broward County Schools in Florida.
One of the most highly regarded education centres at Clarion is the College of Health and Human Services. As well as a bachelors and masters in nursing, the school offers a doctoral degree in nursing practice and a a post-master's family nurse practitioner certificate, with all courses tailored to meet current employment needs in this expanding job sector.
The Clarion Golden Eagles compete in six men’s varsity teams and nine women’s. The memorial stadium complex is the official home ground of the American football, soccer, baseball and softball teams, and the Waldo Tippin Gym contains an athletics facility that can seat up to 4,000. Opened in 1999, the 48,000ft² recreation centre is open to all students, and contains features such as a weight room, multi-purpose courts and a climbing wall.
Alumni of Clarion include Olympic gold medal winner and professional wrestler Kurt Angle, rear Admiral with the Navy Nurse Corps Joan Engel, radio producer Joe Kapp, and Congressman Evan Jones.
