About Pfeiffer University
Pfeiffer University is located near Richfield in North Carolina and it is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
The university actually originated as a home school called Oberlin, back in the 19th century. The school began awarding high school diplomas in 1913, junior college classes in 1928 and was accredited in 1996 to achieve university status.
The university is made up of a variety of schools, which include: Business, Education, Arts and Sciences, Health, Professional Advancement and Degree Completion, and the Graduate School.
Interestingly, the land that Pfeiffer University sits on is a national historic district with 14 key buildings, which were all erected between 1923 and 1948. Some of the most notable buildings include the Administration Building, Rowe Hall, Jane Freeman Hall, and the Henry Pfeiffer Chapel.
Pfeiffer University has two further postgraduate campuses. The main graduate campus is located in Charlotte, North Carolina whereas Pfeiffer's Research Triangle Park campus, located in Morrisville, North Carolina. Graduate degrees on offer include: business administration, healthcare administration, education, organisational change and leadership, and marriage and family therapy.
Nicknamed the Falcons, Pfeiffer's athletic teams compete in the NCAA's Division II as a member of the Conference Carolinas. They are, however, transitioning to Division III and will join the D-III USA South Athletic Conference in 2017. Sports on offer include: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
Notable alumni include Antonio Harvey, a now retired American professional basketball player, Vinny Maddalone, an American professional boxer who fights at heavyweight, and John Keith Crisco, an American businessman and public official from the State of North Carolina.
