About Indiana University Northwest

Located in the small city of Gary in Indiana, Indiana University Northwest (IU Northwest) was established in 1963 and offers over 90 degree programs available as part of the public Indiana University system.

With around 6,000 undergraduate students, IU Northwest offers over 70 undergraduate courses that are hosted by the School of Education, the School of Business and Economics, the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Heath and Human Sciences.

There are also over 20 master’s and doctoral level study programs available and the IU School of Medicine-Northwest-Gary is the only medical school in the region.

Over 80 percent of the faculty have achieved the highest degree available in their respective fields, and with an average of 30 students per class, the university prides itself on offering personal attention to all students.

The 36-acre campus is situated in the northwest corner of Indiana and there are a huge range of on-campus clubs and organisations.

The IU Northwest sports teams, known as the RedHawks, compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete in basketball, cross-country, golf and volleyball. The Savannah Fitness Center provides a range of sports facilities including a full-size gym, an aerobic room and a walking track.

There are more than 28,000 IU Northwest alumni in high-ranking positions across the world, and the Office of Alumni Relations maintains connections with as many as possible.
