About Wichita State University

Wichita State University opened in 1895 as a public institution of higher education in Wichita, Kansas.

The university offers a broad range of 60 undergraduate programmes organised across the W. Frank Barton School of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Fine Arts, College of Health Professions and Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  

There is the opportunity to join the 15 NCAA Division I teams in baseball, basketball, volleyball, bowling, rowing, cross-country, golf, softball, tennis, track and field. For intramural options, you can partake in bass fishing, wrestling, cricket, table tennis soccer, shooting or cycling.

The 330-acre campus is located in Kansas’s largest city with a population of 670,000. This provides plenty of opportunities to experience the busy nightlife and cultural activities at the university as well as taking advantage of the business, internship and job opportunities in Wichita.

Famous alumni include short story writer Janet Peery, opera singer Joyce DiDonato, guitarist, composer and musical instrument inventor Kevin Kastning, basketball player Antoine Carr, illustrator Bob Peak and businessman Gary Burrell, who set up Garmin.
