About University of West Florida
The University of West Florida was established in 1963.
Its courses are structured across the Colleges of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, Education and Professional Studies, Health, and Business. The over 45 undergraduate programmes include biology, chemistry, computer engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, marine biology, mathematics, physics; anthropology, studio art, graphic design, advertising, communication, liberal arts, writing, history, arts administration, international studies, music, philosophy, political science, theatre; accounting, finance, management, economics, marketing; technical education, criminal justice, engineering technology, legal studies, social work, sport management; athletic training, physical education, public health, nursing and psychology.
Athletics-wise, you can choose to do baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, softball, swimming and diving and volleyball.
The main campus is located in natural woodland by the Escambia River and Pensacola.
The university also maintains the largest library in northwest Florida, which has over 628,000 printed volumes, a million microfilms and microfiches, 3,000 serial subscriptions and under 2,000 online journal subscriptions.
Famous alumni include federal judge Margaret Catharine Rodgers, astronaut Kenneth Cockrell, basketball player Moochie Norris, James O. Ellis, a four-star admiral and member of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, journalist Liz Swaine and Swedish golfer David Lingmerth.
