About University of Miyazaki

Following the merger of Miyazaki Advanced Agriculture and Forestry School, Miyazaki Prefectural Normal School for Primary Education, and the Miyazaki Prefectural Advanced Technical School, the University of Miyazaki (UOM) was created in 1949.

Miyazaki Medical College joined in 2003 and it now has five faculties: education and culture, medicine, engineering and agriculture and the newest, established in 2016, the faculty of regional innovation.

UOM is spread over two campuses: Kibana (for agriculture, engineering and education) and Kiyotake (for the medical faculty and college hospital). There is an on-campus health care and security centre, cafeteria and book store.

It is highly selective in its admission policy and relies on entrance examinations and past academic records. Between 10-20 per cent of those who apply are accepted to study.

The Miyazaki prefecture is in Japan’s south-eastern Kyushu. Miyazaki City has a population of approximately 400,000 and is located on the coast, with Pacific Ocean currents granting it with one of the warmest climates in Japan. There is a panoramic view of the ocean from UOM’s Lecture Building.

Summers are very hot and winters are mild, so the city is a haven for professional baseball and football training camps in the spring.

Agriculture in Miyazaki is also thriving and the area produces rice, vegetables, fruit and all kinds of seafood.

Miyazaki airport is a 15-minute drive from the University of Miyazaki, while the main train station, Kibana is a 30-minute walk from campus.
