About University of Lynchburg

Lynchburg College is a private institution in the state of Virginia. A residential college long committed to giving its students a liberal arts-based education, it runs about 40 majors, 48 minors, 13 pre-professional programs, and 20 graduate programs, including doctoral courses in leadership studies and physical therapy. LC is the nation’s first college to train nuclear physicists for NS Savannah, its first nuclear-powered merchant ship, in the 1950s.

Founded as Virginia Christian College in 1903, it became Lynchburg College in 1919. LC’s main 264-acre campus is spread across more than 50 buildings. In 2014, LC opened a campus on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, which it has had a partnership with since 2003, for the benefit of locals as well as LC students who may wish to study there. LC boasts hundreds of study abroad programmes around the world.

Almost all of its students benefit from financial support to help cover tuition costs. More than two thirds participate in sports and recreational activities, including NCAA Division III athletic teams. LC has been coeducational throughout its history. Its student-staff ratios have dropped as low as 10:1.

Situated on the James River, the city of Lynchburg, it enjoys stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is 100 miles west of state capital Richmond, while national capital Washington D.C. is 175 miles north-east.

LC alumni include Whit Haydn, one of the most famous magicians in the country.
