About St Catherine University
Named for the 4th century Christian martyr, St Catherine University is a Roman Catholic liberal arts university based in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 1905 as a women’s college and informally known at St. Kate’s, in recent years co-educational graduate and certificate programmes have also been introduced.
Academic options at St. Catherine are hugely varied, offering a combination of 1000 possible courses across 100 academic departments. Studies are divided between four Schools; Health, Humanities, Arts & Sciences, Business & Professional Studies, and Social Work. The Centre for Sales Innovation at St. Catherine offers a unique approach to business study, the only institute in the state offering majors and minors in both Business and Healthcare Sales.
In the graduate field St. Catherine offers sixteen master’s programmes, and doctorates in the school of Health and in Social Work. Core curriculum programmes at St. Catherine include The Reflective Woman, and the Global Search for Justice, connecting students to a liberal arts grounding and the St. Catherine ethos.
The Twin Cities can be a great place for students to live and study, offering both a wide range of cultural locations such as the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and internship opportunities at companies such as Xcel Energy, Ameriprise Financial, and St. Jude Medical.
Athletics teams at St. Catherine are known as the Wildcats, and compete in the NCAA Division III. In total there are eleven sports programmes, including dance, golf, and hockey. Built in 1994, the Butler Athletic Centre is open is all students, and hosts nutrition, exercise and sports science classes, intramural sports, and exercise equipment.
Alumnae of St. Catherine include Kenyan politician Shukran Hussein Gure, North Dakota judge Carol Kapsner, congresswoman Betty McCollum, and actress Nancy Youngblut.
