Paul Smiths College of Arts and Science

Paul Smiths College is based in its namesake hamlet – Paul Smiths in New York. It is the only four-year institution of higher education within the Adirondack Park – New York's Forest Preserve.

Paul Smiths College was founded through Phelps Smith, son of Apollos Smith, whose Paul Smith's Hotel, was the most famous wilderness resort of its era. Its impressive 14,000-acre campus is one of the largest college campuses in the world.

Offering both two and four year degrees, some of the most popular subjects include natural resources, environmental science, fisheries and wildlife science, forestry, recreation, biology, hotel and restaurant management, culinary arts and business. 

The majority of the college popular live on campus in residence halls. Paul Smiths rural location also lends itself to many campus-based activities, which include fishing and hunting. As it is located on Lower St. Regis Lake, students have a beach with lifeguard to canoe and kayak. 

Moreover student-directed clubs include: Artisans' club, Outing club, Students for Environmental Action, Society of American Foresters, the Wildlife Society, Kayaking, Ski and Snowboard Club, Gaming club, Fish and Game Club, and Wrestling club.

The college has a wide variety of sports teams, which include: basketball, soccer, rugby and cross country. The college also offers sports programmes to fit in with its outdoor character, such as snow racing, Nordic skiing teams, and canoe racing.

The university also has an impressive newly renovated Saunders Sports Complex which houses the Bobcat fitness centre, a gymnasium, dance studio, and campus pool.

Notable alumni include Laura Ellen James, an American fashion model who won America's Next Top Model Cycle 19, John Mitzewich, famously known as Chef John,  an American chef, video blogger and YouTube celebrity, and Jon L. Luther, an American food-service industry executive and chairman of Dunkin' Brands.
