About Mount Aloysius College

Mount Aloysius College (MAC) is one of the oldest Catholic colleges in the United States. It was established in 1853 as St Aloysius Academy, formed by the Sisters of Mercy in Loretta, Pennsylvania. It later changed its location to Cresson. The main campus hall dates back to 1897 and houses its own art gallery.

The college takes its faith seriously and sees its mission of education as founded on religious principles. Prayer services, retreats and faith sharing opportunities are available to both students and staff.

As a liberal arts college, all students at MAC follow a core curriculum of arts and sciences, intended to give a firm foundation of knowledge to last a lifetime. Students are also encouraged to consider ethical issues and questions of faith.

MAC offers bachelor’s and associate degrees. The majority of programmes require a practicum, or work experience unit, and students can intern with various local employers including schools and hospitals.

Over 100 different events, intramurals, societies and activities take place on campus. Student organisations include criminology club, pep band, the black student union and Belltower Newspaper.

Student athletes are known as “Mounties” and compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III in sports such as golf, volleyball, cross country and soccer.
