McMaster University: DeGroote

Part of McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, DeGroote is named after philanthropist Michael G. DeGroote. The school traces its origins back to the MBA programme established in 1962, with a Faculty of Business established six years later. It was renamed after its benefactor in 1992 and rolled out in a new building on the McMaster campus.

In 2007, after expansion which included a trading, a campus was built in nearby Burlington that is now the site of the school’s MBA and executive education programmes.

As well as these programmes, DeGroote offers an innovative digital systems-focused EMBA; undergraduate commerce (includes an internship); integrated business and humanities; master of finance programme; graduate diploma in professional accountancy (for students pursuing the chartered professional accountancy [CPA] designation); PhD Programme; the directors college (partnership with Conference Board of Canada); health policy PhD; the interdisciplinary MSc in eHealth and MSc in global health; master of health management (partnership with School of Rehabilitation Science in the Faculty of Health Sciences).

On the research side, DeGroote has a number of intensive projects going on across various research centres and institutes.

The Michael Lee Chin and Family Institute for Strategic Business Studies nurtures innovative thinking about business strategy. The CPA/DeGroote Centre for the Promotion of Accounting Education & Research is a joint venture by CPA Ontario and McMaster University encouraging development of professional activities in the field of accounting for both students and faculty. Finally, the McMaster Digital Transformation Research Centre (MDTRC) brings together top researchers from the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, and beyond to better understand the impact of the digital revolution on the world at large.
