About King Edward Medical University
The King Edward Medical University, located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, was founded in 1860, making it the fourth oldest medical school in South Asia.
Originally named Lahore Medical College, it was renamed in 1911 as King Edward Medical College and only became King Edward Medical University in 2006. The university is named after the late King and Emperor, Edward VII.
The Latin phrase altapete, meaning ‘"o seek the highest" is the university’s motto. It encourages both students and staff to reach their full potentials, recognise their strengths and acquire exceptional academic and social skills.

The university has seven main faculties: basic sciences; medicine and allied specialties; surgery and allied specialties; nursing and allied health sciences; public health and preventive medicine; allied health sciences and dentistry. Within each faculty there are a number of fields that students can choose to specialise in.
There are various student societies to join at King Edward \university such as the arts and photography society, the dramatic society and the literary society. These clubs compete nationally and internationally throughout the academic year and have won several competitions.
The King Edward Medical College Alumni Association of North America was formed in 1973 as a non-profit organisation. Its members are King Edward graduates who help to provide financial and educational support for current students of the university.
