About Jamia Hamdard University
Jamia Hamdard University is a deemed to be university in New Delhi, India.
The history of the university begins with the establishment of the small Unani clinic in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, one of the well-known practitioners of the Unani system of medicine. Gradually more institutions were created, including the Institute of History of Medicine and Medical research which were amalgamated into Jamia Hamdard and granted university status in 1989.
Over the last 10 years, Jamia Hamdard University has emerged as an institution of higher learning with distinct and focused academic programmes. There are 10 schools on campus: chemical and life sciences, Unani medical education, pharmaceutical education, nursing sciences and allied health, interdisciplinary studies, management and business studies, engineering sciences and technology, humanities and social sciences, open and distance learning, and law and legal studies. Jamia Hamdard offers postgraduate and doctoral programmes in several disciplines for which advanced facilities are available.
The university has a range of state-of-the-art facilities for students to learn in and enjoy when they are not studying. There are two hospitals on campus, the Majeedia Unani Hospital, and the HAH Centenary Hospital.
New Delhi is India’s capital city, and has a its cosmopolitan nature. Famous and well-visited sites include the Red Fort, where India’s Prime Minister addresses the nation on Independence Day. There is also Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, Akshardham modern Indian arts temple, and riverside fortress, Purana Qila.
