About Islamic University of Indonesia
Founded in 1945, Universitas Islam Indonesia is the oldest private university in Indonesia. It was originally named Sekolah Tinggi Islam (STI) but was renamed in 1947.
The university is located in the city of Yogyakarta, on the Indonesian island of Java.
There are seven faculties at the university: business and economics, law, Islamic science, medicine, mathematics and natural sciences, psychology and socio-cultural sciences, civil engineering and planning, and industrial technology.
The university offers 25 undergraduate programmes and 4 diploma programmes in the fields of accounting, analytical chemistry, corporate management, and finance and banking. There are also 19 postgraduate programmes available at both master and doctoral level.
Research is an important part of the university’s activity. There are 58 specialist laboratories including the Architectural Design Laboratory and the Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory. There are also a number of research centres such as the Islamic Study Centre, the Renewable Energy Study Centre and the Centre for Human Rights Studies. The university publishes its research findings in online scientific journals that have been accredited by the Ministry of Research and Technology of Higher Education.
