About ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon
ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon is a public university founded in 1972. Its areas of specialisation are business, sociology and public policy, social sciences, technology and architecture.
ISCTE is a research university with nine research centres. The research center AUDAX collaborates with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as with various local authorities, business associations. It offers dual degrees and works on the same projects with institutions such as Universidade Estadual de Campinas in Brazil, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US, the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Southern Medical University in China.
ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon is a research university, with nine research centers evaluated by the Foundation for Science and Technology (4 qualified as excellent, 3 as very good and 2 as good).
The university’s famous alumni and faculty include sociologist and World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leader in 2008 Gustavo Cardoso, Portugal’s former Minister for Education Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, anthropologists Miguel Vale de Almeida and Joao de Pina-Cabral and film director Joao Mario Grilo.
Studying in Lisbon gives students access to a rich history giving diverse and mesmerising architecture including two UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery, and breathing Moorish cultural influences. The city thrives in both traditional and contemporary culture.
