About Guangzhou Medical University
Guangzhou Medical University was founded in 1958 as the Medical College.
A public university, it is the largest medical training institution in the south of China, enrolling more than 10,000 graduate and postgraduate students and as many again on continuing education courses. The university has four campuses – Dongfeng Road West, Longdong, Arizhu and Juangguo, a new 247 acre campus close to other major academic institutions in the Panyu district.
It is organised into more than 20 schools which offer the full range of medical disciplines. Most teaching is in Chinese, but some options have been taught in English since 2010. The university continues to encourage international students to attend the university with the majority coming from Nepal and India.
The university has seven affiliated hospitals and many of the lecturers are considered specialists in their field including respiratory and thoracic medicine. Recent research conducted at the university includes significant findings about the risks of high-salt diets and the development of vaccines against Covid-19 variants.
