About Florida Southern College

Florida Southern College (FSC) is based in Florida and has been ranked by The Princeton Review as having the most beautiful campus in the country. The college sits between Tampa and Orlando in the city of Lakeland and students there can enjoy an average of 330 sunny days a year.

Interestingly, FSC is home to the world's largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. The campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to the historical significance of its buildings.

FSC offers some 50 undergraduate and graduate degrees in subjects such as: nursing, business, education, history, music, philosophy and journalism.

The sports teams – nicknamed the Moccasins (or Mocs) – at FSC have won 28 national titles in NCAA Division II competition in several sports, which include: baseball, golf, swimming, basketball, cross country, soccer and lacrosse.

Students also have the opportunity to join more than 70 clubs and student organisations, which include: The Undead Poets Society, criminology club, chess club, and Spanish club.

With consistently warm temperatures students spend most of their time – outside of studying – water skiing, kayaking and sailing on Lake Hollingsworth, which is located directly across from campus.

The library – located on the campus of Florida Southern College in Lakeland – is referred to as the “Roux Library” and was built between 1941 and 1945 by Frank Lloyd Wright. The building is circular and houses a multi-tiered reading room for students to enjoy the books on offer.

Annually, students are required to attend the quarterly Convocation, which is held in the Branscomb Auditorium. Past speakers include: Conservationist Jeff Corwin, New York Times' best-selling author Da Chen, and author-businessman Stephen Covey.

Notable alumni include Lance William Niekro, a former Major League Baseball player, Rocco Anthony Mediate, an American professional golfer who has won six times on the PGA Tour and three times on the Champions Tour, and Allan Gutiérrez Castro, a swimmer who competed in the 2012 Olympics.
