About Federal University of Uberlândia

The Federal University of Uberlândia (or Universidade Federal de Uberlândia - UFU) is a higher education institution in the southwest of Minas Gerais, in Uberlândia, Brazil. It was granted university status as a federation of faculties on 14 August, 1969.

The Federal University of Uberlândia is a public university committed to providing free and high-quality public education and does so for 24,500 students, taught by a staffing body of 1,900. Students are admitted yearly through an exam called the vestibular.

UFU has 28 schools and institutes across three main fields: biomedical sciences, engineering and technology and business and humanities. UFU offers 77 undergraduate courses, 37 masters programmes and 19 PhD courses. Its medicine degree is particularly sought-after, as are the law, economics, engineering, science and art degrees.

Along with two football stadiums, UFU is in the centre of the city.

Uberlândia is in the Brazilian Highlands, situated along the Bom Jardim River. It was given its city status in 1892 and is a trade centre for the mostly agricultural and pastoral areas between Sao Paulo and Goiás, known as the Minas Triangle. Key crops are soy, cotton, corn, rice and feijão, a staple diet bean.

Located on the main highway and railroad between Sao Paulo and Brasília, Uberlândia has its own domestic airport and has a population of 669,667. Minas Gerais, a large inland state of southeastern Brazil, is the country’s storehouse of mineral riches, as indicated by its name, which in Portuguese translates as “General Mines.”
