About Dicle University
Dicle University dates back to 1966 when the Faculty of Medicine was established as part of Ankara University. In 1974 the Faculty of Arts and Sciences opened and Diyarbakir University was officially founded. In 1982 the university was renamed Dicle University.
The university is located in Diyarbakir, a city in southeastern Turkey.
Although its main campus is situated in Diyarbakir, the university also has vocational schools in Ergani, Çermik, Çüngüş, Bismil, and Silvan.
The university is named after the Tigris River, which is translated as "Dicle" in Turkish. The river separates the university’s 27,000-acre campus from the city.
There are 15 faculties within the university including the faculty of dentistry, faculty of science, faculty of law, faculty of theology, and the faculty of architecture. Each faculty offers a range of undergraduate degree programmes.
The university has four graduate schools for students seeking to further their education: the graduate school of natural and applied sciences, the graduate school of social sciences, the graduate school of health sciences, and the graduate school of education sciences.
There are four schools within the university: the school of physical education and sports, the school of civil aviation, the school of foreign languages, and the Atatürk school of health.
