About Coe College

Coe College is a private liberal arts institution in the Midwestern state of Iowa.

One of the oldest colleges in the state, CC is a small, specialist institution which enjoys strong graduate employment rates and relatively low average class sizes.

Founded in 1851 by Rev. Williston Jones, minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Cedar Rapids, it has been linked to the Presbyterian Church ever since. It welcomes male and female students.

Situated at the heart of Cedar Rapids, the second biggest city in Iowa, located on the Cedar River, the university is under 10 miles from East Iowa Airport, and easily accessible by road.

One high-profile alumnus is Bill Fitch, the basketball coach who led the Boston Celtics to the NBA title in 1981 and took charge of four of the league’s other teams, winning the Coach of the Year award twice. Under 30 miles north of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids is 115 miles from the state capital of Des Moines and within 300 miles of Chicago, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and St Louis, Missouri.

Courses vary from creative writing to chemistry, biology, business administration, sociology, political science, theatre arts, environmental studies, film studies, psychology and public relations. CC either awards a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Bachelor of Music. Its students are also able to explore subjects outside their study programmes. More than half go on to further study.
