About American University of Nigeria

The American University of Nigeria offers international degree programmes to undergraduate and graduate students.

The university was founded in Yola, Northeast Nigeria by former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, after he approached the American University in Washington DC for advice on establishing an American-inspired university in Nigeria. It was in 2007 that the institution gained its current name, and the first class of students graduated in 2009.

There are five main faculties at the university: arts and sciences, business and entrepreneurship, engineering, information technology and computing and law. In addition, the graduate school offers flexible programmes that allow busy professionals to gain advanced degrees in their specialised fields.

Through student activities, leadership development experiences, athletics, student governance, and other extra-curricular programs, the student affairs team provides students with opportunities to enjoy their free time, develop their skillset, and meet new people.
