About Purdue University Northwest

Purdue University Northwest was established in 1946.

Purdue University Northwest has five colleges spread across two campuses, offering over 70 areas of study for undergraduate and graduate students. Their Hammond Campus is just 30-miles from Chicago, and the Westville Campus is situated 15-miles from the Indiana Dunes National Park.

Both campuses at Purdue University Northwest have students from 47 countries studying at the university. Most students at the university take full-time courses, which have a 20:1 student-to-faculty ratio.

There are six main colleges and schools: business, education and counselling; nursing; humanities; education and social sciences; engineering and sciences; engineering; technology; and hospitality and tourism management.

Across these schools, 136 undergraduate programmes are offered, including biology, computer science, elementary education, foods and nutrition, and many more. The university’s online programme finder allows prospective students to explore courses based on their areas of interest, such as "working with my hands" or "crunching numbers".

Purdue University additionally offers 33 postgraduate programmes across the same six schools and colleges, which can be taken either online or on campus. These postgraduate programmes can be taken in the form of a master’s in subject areas including communication, civil engineering, nursing practice, and engineering technology.

The university has 15 NCAA Division II athletic teams including baseball, basketball, cross country, golf and ice hockey. Famous athletic alumni include Dallas Mavericks NBA Champion, Brian Cardinal, as well as baseball players, Bernie Allen and Jermaine Allensworth.
