About Gettysburg College

Based in Pennsylvania, Gettysburg College is a four-year liberal arts college, with roots dating back to 1832, in Pennsylvania. In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked it 46th among Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the US. Moreover, it is consistently rated as one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States, partly due to its close proximity to the Gettysburg Battlefield National Park.

There are a variety of subjects on offer, which include: anthropology, art history, biochemistry and molecular biology, health sciences, history, music, religious studies, theatre, and women gender and sexuality studies.

The main library – the Musselman Library – provides student access to books, journals, videos, sound recordings, rare books, and manuscripts. Exhibits are displayed throughout the year and are updated on a regular basis while there are Special Collections and College Archives located on the fourth floor. Special Collections is also home to the College Archives, which preserves records that document college activities, policies, and programmes.

There are more than 120 clubs and organisations on campus, such as: community service, art and music, theatre and media, academics, and outdoor adventure.

Moreover there are 24 sports teams for both men and women to participate in. They are members of the NCAA Division III. Some 25 per cent of Gettysburg's students participate in intercollegiate programmes, which include twelve sports for men and twelve sports for women.

In 2008, the college built a new $25 million athletic centre – the John F. Jaeger Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Fitness – which featured a natatorium, complete with eight lanes and enough space for 350 seated spectators, a 10,000 foot weight and cardio room complete with flat-screen TVs, additional spaces for yoga, aerobics, spinning and martial arts classes and rock climbing walls.

Notable alumni include Fred Fisher Fielding, an American lawyer who held the office of White House Counsel for US Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, Carol Bellamy, who is currently the Chair of the Board of the Global Community Engagement, and Carson Lee Kressley, a television personality, actor and designer.
