About Daemen College
Set up in 1947, Daemen College is a private non-sectarian liberal arts college in Amherst, New York.
The College offers a wide range of undergraduate majors including accounting, animation, applied theatre, biochemistry, biology, education, English, health promotion, history and political science, painting, natural science, sculpture, social work, mathematics and nursing.
All students must take the Core Curriculum, which focuses around seven competencies rather than disciplines, such as critical thinking and creative problem solving, information literacy, communication skills, affective awareness, moral and ethical discernment, contextual integration, and civic responsibility.
Students can take part in basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, triathlon, golf, volleyball and track and field at the college, or can join one of the many student societies and clubs ranging from the ski, art, piano and marketing club to the Black Student Union and the Diversity and Multicultural Affairs Societies.
The campus is located near areas of spectacular natural beauty such as the Great Lakes and Buffalo-Niagara. The drive across the Canadian border to Toronto, a city buzzing with night life and cultural events of all sorts, is only two hours.
A few of Daemon’s famous alumni are Mary Ellen Elia, the first female Commissioner of Education of the State of New York, editor and publisher Geoffrey Gatza, classical violonist and pianist Ayke Agus, basketball player Monica Kosior, who competes in Romania’s National League, country singer and songwriter Rick DePiro, basketball players Gerald Beverly and Samuel Ouedraogo.
