About Canisius College

Canisius College, based in Buffalo New York, is a private college founded by members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) from Germany and is named after St. Peter Canisius.

Buffalo – the second largest city in New York State – boasts world class architecture, beautiful parks, a thriving theatre district, art galleries and museums all within minutes of Canisius College’s campus.

Around 140 undergraduate majors and 35 master’s are on offer for students, which include: economics, finance, history, sociology, journalism and marketing.

Outside of the classroom, Canisius students can join more than 100 campus organisations and varsity sports teams, which compete in the NCAA Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Men's sports include baseball, basketball, bowling, football, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, track & field and wrestling; while women's sports include basketball, bowling, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field and volleyball.

The Griffin is a weekly newspaper written and produced by Canisius students, which replaced The Canisian in 1933 and went online in 2013. Moreover the annual Quadrangle magazine contains student writings, artwork, and photographs.

The campus has recently been transformed with more than $150 million in capital investments developing eight major residence halls and a newly opened Science Hall.

Canisius College offers a number of student services, including tutoring, placement service, health service, health insurance and campus safety and security services like 24-hour patrols and late night transport service.

Notable Canisius College alumni include Edward Zubler, inventor of the halogen lamp, basketball player Michael Smrek, who won two NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Dennis F. Strigl, the President and CEO of Verizon Wireless.
