About Avila University
Avila University, based in Missouri, is situated on a campus of 50 acres in the heart of Kansas City.
Avila University is divided in seven schools and colleges and offers bachelor's degrees in 36 majors and master's degrees – arts & social sciences, business, education, nursing, science and health, visual and communication arts, and graduate studies.
There are more than 40 student organisations available to students, which include: the Student Senate, Group Activities Programming, Black Student Union, Student Social Work Association, Residence Hall Association, Campus Ministries, and numerous academic organisations and honour societies.
Since its beginnings in 1866, Avila University has developed many traditions, which are kept alive to this day. For instance Eagle Madness, a pep rally held the Friday of homecoming weekend which involves games, food, music and performances, Harmony Month, which seeks to remind students that diversity is an important component of the Avila community, and Stress Relief Week, which is held twice a year the week before finals, offering massages, smoothies, late night finals breakfasts, yoga classes, and more.
Campus facilities include four residence halls, a fieldhouse and auxiliary pavilion for basketball and volleyball, a sports complex for football, baseball, softball, and soccer, as well as a library, a theatre, a chapel, and classroom facilities.
Avila athletic programmes participate in the Heart of America Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). This includes 12 varsity sports including football, baseball, softball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, and women's volleyball.
Notable alumni include Kevin Porter, a college athletics administrator and former American football player and coach, Mary Pilcher-Cook, a Republican member of the Kansas Senate, and David Kerr, former secretary of the Kansas Department of Commerce.
