About Spring Arbor University

Founded in 1873, Spring Arbor University (SAU) is a Methodist-affiliated institution with a main campus in the southern Michigan community for which it is named. As well as the main SAU site there are twelve residential locations in Michigan, and courses taught at two colleges in Toledo, Ohio.

In total there are almost 100 undergraduate degree programmes offered at SAU, between the Schools of Business, Arts & Sciences, Education, and Human Services. There are also three master’s programmes available, in business administration, counselling, and social work. Online courses for adults balancing study with work and family are offered at MA level in strategic communication, and spiritual formation.

Since its inception in 1986, the Centre for Cross Cultural Studies has strived to imbue students with an international, interdisciplinary approach to studies. Faculty led semester courses have previously been taught in 35 locations globally, including diverse locations such as American Samoa, Scotland, Israel and Uganda.

Some art facilities at the 8,100 feet Ogle Arts Centre are studios for sculpture and drawing, kiln area, and a computer lab. The Ganton Art Gallery is one of the largest single space display facilities in Michigan, and offers both exhibitions of student art and works from professional artists.

Whiteman-Gibbs Science Centre at the Spring Arbor Campus is separated between the Natural Sciences office and the Theology Department, and regularly offers science experiment displays for the local community.

Athletics teams at SAU are known as the Cougars, and field teams in the NCAA Division I. There are a total of eight men’s sports programmes and nine women’s, including bowling, cross country, and women’s volleyball.

The university motto translates as ‘Faith, Living, Learning’.
