About Cornerstone University
Cornerstone University is a private non-denominational Christian institution in Grand Rapids, Michigan’s second-largest city.
An evening bible institute during its early years, it was founded as the Baptist Bible Institute of Grand Rapids in 1941. A four-year college from the 1960s, CU has been a degree-awarding institution since 1972, now offering more than 60 programmes at undergraduate level. CU’s campus, which it has inhabited since 1964, comprises more than 130 acres. It has been known as Cornerstone College since 1999.
Grand Rapids has been voted best beer city in the US in recent years, boasting more than 25 microbreweries, plus the biggest art competition globally, attracting 1,700 participants annually. The university is located in the north east of town, five miles from the city centre.
CU can be found 145 miles north west of Detroit, and 35 miles from some of Lake Michigan’s sandiest shoreline. Michigan is the only Great Lake entirely in the US – the other four cross the American-Canadian border.
Grand Rapids is 60 miles from the state capital of Lansing, and served by Gerald R. Ford International Airport, named after the 38th US president. The second airport in the state, it has more than 20 routes. Lansing is the site of one of CU’s satellite campuses, as is Kalamazoo, 50 miles south of Grand Rapids.
A significant number of its courses are available remotely. Its business programmes have made national top 50s and top 100s. More than two-thirds of its residents live on campus.
