About University of Southern Indiana

The University of Southern Indiana (USI) is a public university located in the town of Evansville, spread across a spectacular 1,400 acre campus. The city itself is located on the Ohio river and is an economic and cultural centre of a tristate area including Illinois and Kentucky.

Academic study at USI is divided between the colleges of Liberal Arts, Nursing, Science, Engineering & Education, and Business. USI also offers thirteen master’s programmes, and a doctorate of Nursing Practice.

The New Harmony Theatre is a professional equity stage group operated by USI. As well as attracting professional theatre artists from all over the United States, the theatre is a centrepiece of the theatre arts major, allowing students to work on productions from freshman year. In 2005, New Harmony Theatre premiered a play from dramatist Thom Thomas.

The Centre for Applied Research at USI is a dedicated facility connecting resources from across USI’s varied academic fields. In the technical sector, the centre has developed 3D Printing technology and engineering design, and the research areas range from polls and social science to environmental studies. 

Athletics teams at USI are known as the Screaming Eagles, and compete in the NCAA Division II. In total there are seven men’s sports programmes and eight women’s, including softball and volleyball. The Physical Activities Centre at USI houses three basketball courts, and can seat up to 2,500 spectators.

Alumni of USI include baseball player Kevin Brown, congressman Brad Ellsworth, and infant researcher Robert Titzer. The university was founded in 1965, and its motto is ‘knowledge for life’.
