About Pomona College

Pomona College is an arts college located in Claremont in California. It has roots dating back to 1887 and it is the founding member of the Claremont Colleges. 

The Claremont Colleges are a consortium of five undergraduate and two graduate schools of higher education all based in the same region. All of the Claremont College campuses are adjoining and within walking distance of one another. Put together, the campuses cover roughly 1 square mile.

Students that attend Pomona can take up to 50 per cent of classes at the other four undergraduate colleges within the Claremont group. As such, students have access to 2,200 courses each year.

Some of the most popular courses on offer at Pomona are: economics, computer science, mathematics, neuroscience, international relations, psychology, linguistics and cognitive science. 

Annually, students take at least one course in the following areas: creative expression, social institutions and human behaviour, history, values, ethics and cultural studies, physical and biological sciences, and mathematical reasoning.

Pomona College offers students the chance to study abroad. There are some 54 programmes across 34 countries. 

Pomona offers more than 200 student organisations, which include: The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company, Outdoors Club, Pomona College Orchestra, Glee Club, Women's Union,, Office of Black Student Affairs, and Beginning Rock Climbing. There is also a secret club called "Mulfi" has left cryptic notes with social commentary around campus since the 1940s.

Athletic teams – nicknamed The Sagehens – participate in conjunction with Pitzer College (another member of Claremont Colleges), in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the NCAA's Division III. There are 10 different sports teams, which include: soccer, cycling, fencing, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, racquetball, rugby, and volleyball.

Moreover given its location, students can hike at the Claremont Loop, which is just minutes from campus.
