If you’re interested in studying things such as magic and the paranormal, than a parapsychology degree might be a good choice for you.
The University of Edinburgh’s Koestler Parapsychology Unit conducts research in many different areas of parapsychology including the historical context, out-of-body experiences, experiences of hauntings, dreaming, psychic ability and many other things.
Students are also able to study courses in many of these topics across all study levels.
The University of Edinburgh has been offering this course for the past 50 years, but there are a number of other universities that also offer the course.
Satan in the History of Ideas, Uppsala University
The summer course at Uppsala University on Satan in the History of Ideas was one of the university’s most popular summer courses last year.
It delved into the history of ideas about the figures of Satan from the 4th century BCE until the 7th century CE. The course also explored the social concept of the Devil, how he has been represented and the different attributes and features of him.
Although the course doesn’t run anymore, given its popularity it may be resurfaced in the future.

Witchcraft and Magic, University of Oslo
This course at the University of Oslo looks at the cultural history of magic and witchcraft looking specifically at the early modern witch-hunts in Europe.
It explores how concepts of magic have changed, how witchcraft and the concept of trolls have changed over time and demonological manuals.
Students will also be able to specialise as the course goes on to look at occultism and neopaganism. A perfect course choice for students who love anything to do with witches.
Folklore and the Supernatural, University of Pennsylvania
People have always believed in the supernatural, whether that means ghosts, spirits, witches, vampires or fairies.
If you’re interested in learning about how attitudes and supernatural beliefs have evolved form the more traditional ideas to a the modern concepts of today, then this course at the University of Pennsylvania will provide that.
The course covers many different aspects including cross-cultural beliefs in the supernatural, dark tourism, UFOs and many other areas. Students also have the opportunity to explore other areas of interest.
Ghosts, Witches and Demons: the Renaissance Supernatural, University of Exeter
This module is available to undergraduate students and looks at the depictions of ghosts, witches and demons in various forms of literature.
It focuses in particular on religious depictions of these beings and how certain works of literature might be considered to go against these.
The works of writers such as Marlowe, Shakespeare and Milton are studied within this module.
