About Yeungnam University

Established in 1967 and located in the North Gyeongsang region of South Korea, Yeungnam University is a private research university. It was formed following the merger of Taegu College and Chunggu College.

Today, there are roughly 35,000 students enrolled at the university. The majority of these are undergraduate with around 3,500 pursuing graduate and professional degrees. Within the university’s faculties is a staff body of around 900. Around half of these are professors with the remainder made up by associate professors, assistant professors and international professors.

There are 19 schools and colleges, and students are also given the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary studies.

Yeungnam is organised across two campuses. The main one is Gyeongsan campus, which is made up of 161 buildings set within 2.5 million square metres of land. By train, the city of Gyeongsan is just an hour and a half away from the Korean capital city of Seoul.

The smaller Daemyung campus houses six buildings across some 85,000 square metres. There is also the university’s training centre made up of four buildings, the medical centre comprising 27 buildings, as well as the Yeongcheon Hospital. An additional 11 organisations are affiliated with the university, including the Centre for International Programmes and the Foreign Language institute.

Standing 21 stories high, the tallest building on campus is the main university library, boasting an extensive collection of materials. Another two branch libraries are situated around the university.

Other university facilities include six halls of residence halls with accommodation for 1,200 students. There is also a health service centre for students and staff, and a museum that houses the collections of the Institute of Silla-Gaya culture.

The university’s motto, which expresses its educational philosophy, is ‘building the nation with education.’
