About Yangzhou University

Yangzhou University (YZU) was established in 1992 as the result of a merger between eight colleges: Teachers College of Yangzhou, Agricultural College of Jiangsu, Engineering College of Yangzhou, Medical College of Jiangsu, Engineering College of Yangzhou, Medical College of Yangzhou, Water Conservancy Engineering College of Jiangsu and Business School of Jiangsu.

It was part of the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education’s plan to merge and improve higher education institutions in China.

Yangzhou University covers 273 hectares or 1.49 million square metres, with seven campuses located around Yangzhou’s downtown area: Lotus Pond campus, Huaihai Road campus, North Jiangyang Road campus, Yangzijin campus, Wenhui Road campus, Slender West Lake campus and South Jiangyang Road campus.

It owns several experimental factories, farms, an animal hospital, an affiliated high school and several affiliated clinical hospitals, which provide a full range of modern facilities to meet the needs of teaching, research and student internships.

As for research, YZU has 84 research institutes and 36 teaching centres, with around 1,700 ongoing research projects which receive a total of RMB 300 million yuan annually (£34,221,330).

In 2017, there were 33,000 undergraduate students, 9000 postgraduate students and 11,000 students in continuing education at Yangzhou University.

There are 5,900 faculty and staff members working at YZU, of which 2,000 are full-time teachers, with 1,200 professors and associate professors.

It has set up close links with a number of research institutions and higher education establishments in over 45 countries and welcomes students through the Confucius Institute of Kennesaw State University, Georgia and the Queensland University of Technology, Australia.
