About University of Science and Technology of Oran Mohamed-Boudiaf
Université des Sciences et de la technologie d'Oran Mohamed-Boudiaf (or The University of Science and Technology of Oran-Mohamed-Boudiaf) is located in the commune of Bir El Djir in the east of Oran, in Algeria.
Established in 1986, it was named the University of Science and Technology of Oran (USTO) and designed by Japanese architect Kenzō Tange. It was then renamed the University of Science and Technology of Oran-Mohamed-Boudiaf in memory of assassinated President Mohamed Boudiaf.
In front of the university, there is the large, modern Oran University Hospital (EHU Oran) which is used extensively by the Faculty of Medicine Moulay-Driss-Mansouri (or the USTO Faculty of Medicine) to train student doctors and nurses.
It has sports facilities which include an athletics track, Olympic swimming pool and football stadium, plus an Institute of Physical Education and Sports. It is a member of the National Evaluation Commission of the University Research Project (CNEPRU), the National Agency for the Development of University Research (ANDRU) and the National Agency for the Development of Health Research (ANDRS).
It has seven faculties: the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Life and Nature Science, the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Oran is regarded as Algeria’s second city after Algiers and boasts French colonial-era architecture and bustling streets. This lively port city has approximately 760,000 inhabitants. Oran’s old quarter has a casbah and an 18th-century mosque, while the modern section referred to as La Ville Nouvelle, has plenty of high-rises and hotels.
