About Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka
The Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka was established in 2000 as Malaysia’s first technical public university.
It is located in Melaka, which is a UNESCO world heritage city and the campus is similarly revered. Set within 766 acres of green lush landscapes, it has state-of-the-art modern facilities and some classic examples of Malay architecture. There are two campuses, one at Hang Tuah Jaya in Durian and one at Tunggal in Melaka. Its strengths lie in the technical fields, these being engineering, IT, and management technology. Its research competencies are in green technology, systems engineering, human-technology interaction and emerging technology.
It has seven faculties: faculty of electrical engineering, the faculty of electronics and computer engineering, the faculty of mechanical engineering, the Faculty of manufacturing engineering, the faculty of information and communication technology, the faculty of technology management and technopreneurship, the faculty of electrical and electronic engineering technology, the faculty of mechanical and manufacturing engineering technology. There is also a centre for languages and human development and an Institute of Technology Management and Entrepreneurship.
There are approximately 11,400 undergraduate students and 1,300 postgraduate students studying at the university. Facilities for students’ learning include multiple lecture halls, hi-tech laboratories such as the robotic and automation lab and the high voltage lab, as well as a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing centre. There is also a 4,000-capacity mosque, the Laman Hikmah Library which is both a social hub and home for over 115,000 titles, an outdoor sports complex, indoor sports hall, health centre, cafeteria and accommodation for over 7,000 students.
