About Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR)

The Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR) is a public university owned by the federal government with 13 campuses in the state of Paraná, south of Brazil.

The university started off as an elementary school for craftsmen in 1909, when the president of Brazil, Nilo Peçanha, created the School of Apprentices and Artificers. In 1937 UTFPR started acting as a basic education school. Later in 1942 it was combined with federal industrial schools and renamed Technical School of Curitiba and later to Federal Technical School of Paraná in 1959. Finally, president Luiz Inácio Lula De Silva transformed it into its current state.

This unique university is the only university of technology in Brazil and the largest one offering engineering programmes with over 117 undergraduate courses and 64 graduate programmes (10 doctorate and 54 masters programs). UTFPR has around 2,500 senior lecturers, readers and professors, more than 1,000 administrative staff and over 33,000 students.

UFTPR maintains its presence in the business arena through applied research activities and entrepreneurship incubators designed to support startups and emerging business to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset within the younger generation.

Although UTFPR focuses on engineering areas such mechanical, civil construction, electronics, computer science, food and textile, other courses including teacher education courses for maths, physics, chemistry and languages education are now being offered.

Paraná is a coastal city that will definitely keep you occupied. It is home to an araucaria forest, which is one of the world’s most valuable subtropical forests in addition to the national park of Iguaçu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its capital city is Curitiba, renowned for its excellent quality of life and its bustling vibe.
