About Termez State University
Termez State University is a public institution in the capital of Surkhandaryan province, an ancient city close to the border with Afghanistan. The university was founded in 1954 as Termez Teacher Training Institute.
It began by teaching Russian and Uzbek language and literature, physics, maths, natural sciences and chemistry. It became the first university in the region in 1992, the year after Uzbekistan declared independence.
Recent expansion has included the introduction of faculties of pre-school education, Russian philology, architecture and construction and chemistry and technology. In 2019-20 the faculty of fine arts introduced a department of national costume, embroidery and textiles.
The department of international relations was introduced in 1992. International students from Russia, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Turkey are included in the student body New international partners acquired in 2022 included Gachon University, University of Poitiers, University of Gdansk and Tomsk National State Research University.
Entry is highly competitive, with 36,436 applications for undergraduate places reported in 2017.
